Greetings:

 

I pray this letter finds you and your loved ones in good health. Please be advised that Proclamation DRS-2013-1 has proclaimed Sunday, December 15, 2013 to be St. John the Evangelist Day in the State of Ohio and its Jurisdictions and so directs those owing allegiance to the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio to hold a solemn and respectful observance toward one of our patron Saints of Freemasonry in our respective districts. The Fourth Masonic District will observe St. John’s Day at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5301 Free Pike Trotwood, Ohio 45426. Services begin at 10:30 A.M. Please arrive no later than 10:15 A.M. to allow time to assemble for the procession into the Sanctuary.

 

If you would like to observe this event as a Lodge, separate from the district observance, please inform me of your plans as soon as possible (Bradford J Stallworth bradstal7@yahoo.com). Otherwise I look forward to all Lodges in the 4^th Masonic District being well represented. A donation of $25.00 is requested from each Lodge as a love offering to the church. Please make checks or money orders payable to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church and forward to me prior to December 15^th. Cash will also be accepted.

 

This letter also serves as invitation to all Grand Lodge and Amaranth Grand Chapter Trustees, Elected and Appointed Grand Lodge/Grand Chapter Officers, Heads of all Grand and Subordinate Affiliated Bodies, their Officers and members residing within the 4^thMasonic and 5^th OES Districts.

Five to be honored by Order of Eastern Star

Silvery Moon Chapter No. 56, Order of Eastern Star, will host its annual recognition banquet at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Lehr Room at Bolger Conference Center, Gordinier Hall, Millersville University.

Honored will be chapter member Shayna Watson, a chaplain associate at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, along with Janet Simms, Lawrence Hill, Temar Boggs and Chris Garcia. Watson is a 2012 graduate of Lancaster Theological Seminary, where she earned a master of divinity in religion and theological studies.

A retiree from Kellogg's, Simms is a longtime volunteer who's very active at Bright Side Baptist Church and Bright Side Opportunities Center. A local DJ known as Cool La, Hill uses his talents to raise funds for scholarships and other worthy causes. And Boggs and Garcia were the two young men instrumental in finding an abducted 5-year-old girl in Lancaster Township.

Eastern Star donates box tops to Emerson Elementary for school library

DUNCAN — Emerson Elementary was presented with 3,064 Box Tops Monday by Gayla Luna, Worthy Matron of the Duncan chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

The Box Tops amount to $306.40 for Emerson school. Mona Evans, principal of Emerson, said the elementary school always designates Box Top funds to the school’s library. Bea LeValley, librarian, was also part of the presentation.

“Box Tops are always used in the library to get library materials that support Common Core,” said Evans. “We’re going to use these to increase the library’s non-fiction book selection.”

LeValley said the funds they will receive from the Box Tops given to them by Luna this week will go a long way in growing the library’s non-fiction area.

As the Worthy Matron of Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star, Luna has much influence on what projects her group works on in her year of leadership. She said the members have been supportive in her chosen projects.

“I have a very strong belief in giving back to the community,” Luna said. “I didn’t want to choose projects that would cause extra monetary expense.”

With the Box Tops project, Luna said it only caused members to spend a little extra time getting it together. Box Tops can be found on several products including food items and school supplies.

“The group collected them and it wasn’t an individual endeavor,” Luna said. “We’re community focused and our organization has done a lot this year.”

Locally, Order of the Eastern Star collects food at the holidays to donate to the Temple Food Bank and the food bank of Christians Concerned in Duncan. Best Choice labels were donated earlier this year to the Stephens County Youth Shelter building project.

State projects included a charity luncheon in June at the Shine Center in Oklahoma City, where chapters from across the state raised money for the Oklahoma Foster Wishes Program. Children’s clothes and backpacks were also donated at this event.

In September, the Duncan chapter will host the Last Official Visit of the Worthy Grand Matron for District No. 25. Members will bring items to donate to the Oklahoma Foster Wishes Program, where they will be distributed between Comanche and Stephens counties, or non-perishable items for the Ronald McDonald House in Oklahoma City.

Site info: The land, the site of a Naval Officers Club, was given to the GLJ by the Occupation forces after the 2nd World War. The site is in a prime downtown location and as a result they did a deal with a major Japanese Corporation who leased the land from them, built the new temple for them on one corners, and occupied the remainder of the land for their Corporate HQ. The temples, kitchens and dining facilities are below ground while offices and conference rooms are above ground. The lessee pay the utilities and maintenance of the building as well as a major sum of rent each year. Facilities are top notch with the D of C able to control the lighting from a "mission control" panel beside his desk. There are still a number of Lodges which meet on US military bases which is probably the reason for the US flag also being displayed.
